Day 70: A Working Holiday

Corpus Christi

I decided to spend the official day off as a normal working day. Given that my time is limited and there are a number of things that need to be wrapped up and aligned before I return to Sunnyvale, I thought I may as well make my life easier.

Granted, it was a very chill work day. I went to Strohberg for a late breakfast/early lunch, and had a plate full of toast, a croissant, and a delicious combination of strawberry jam, butter, and honey. After lunch, I watched Indiana Jones und das Königreich des Kristallschädels (translation: Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull). The title was only in German and the rest was in English 😅. Afterwards, I resumed work for the rest of the day. I was happy with what I accomplished. I have a new appreciation for build systems and versioning.

Generally Generative - Part 2

I had some fun last night with Khanmigo. I wanted to use it to refresh my understanding of limits in calculus. I can say, without a doubt, that the digital Socratic method has arrived. I’m building a series of “experiments” currently to interact with Khanmigo and to test its capabilities and limitations. One of the things that caught me off guard was how well it responded when I would pretend to get emotional with it. It gave human-like responses that displayed a level of empathy that blended with encouragement to keep trying. It reminded of some of the influential teachers from whom I had the benefit to learn while growing up. I can only imagine what happens when you turn it into speech, attach a cool avatar to the voice, and then throw on a pair of glasses or a headset and learn interactively. The cost barrier will be high, but when it decreases, which it is predicted to for each one of these technological domains, I think some amazing things can happen. It also opens up a big discussion on if this truly helps students grow and develop as humans.
